给 + person + verb: for / to someone

Subject + 给 + Person + Verb (+ Object)
给 (gěi) is first a verb: “to give”: 请给我一杯茶 (please give me a tea).
But it also introduces the person who receives or benefits from an action, before the verb:
• 给我打电话 (call me: “to me phone”)
• 我给你们买了一些水果 (I bought you some fruit)
Like 在 and 跟, “给 + person” goes before the verb, not at the end as in English.
(At level 1 it mostly appears with 打电话; other uses expand at level 2.)
Examples
请给我一杯茶。
Qǐng gěi wǒ yì bēi chá.A tea, please.
晚上给我打电话吧。
Wǎnshang gěi wǒ dǎ diànhuà ba.Give me a call tonight.

Zuótiān wǒ gěi māma dǎle diànhuà.I called my mom yesterday.
