Adj / verb of feeling + 极了 / 死了 / 坏了 | Adj + 得 + 很 / 不得了 / 要命
To express an extreme degree after an adjective or feeling verb:
- 极了 (jí le): "extremely", neutral: 好极了!
- 死了 / 坏了: "to death", spoken, mostly for unpleasant feelings (累死了, 饿坏了), sometimes positive (高兴死了).
- 得很: "very", spoken: 好得很.
- 得不得了: "incredibly": 高兴得不得了.
These replace 很 / 非常 before the adjective: ✗ 很好极了.
Examples
我们队赢了,大家高兴极了!
Wǒmen duì yíng le, dàjiā gāoxìng jí le!Our team won: everyone's thrilled!
跑完马拉松,我累死了。
Pǎowán mǎlāsōng, wǒ lèi sǐ le.After the marathon, I'm dead tired.
比赛紧张得不得了。
Bǐsài jǐnzhāng de bùdéliǎo.The match was incredibly tense.
Common mistakes
✗ 很累死了 / 非常好极了 → no double intensifier. ✓ 累死了 / 好极了。
✗ 他累得死了。 → ✓ 他累死了。 (死了 attaches directly, no 得)
