一边 … 一边 …: doing two things at once
【一39】并列复句 (一边……,一边……)
Tone colorsā tone 1á tone 2ǎ tone 3à tone 4a neutral
一边…一边… (yìbiān… yìbiān…) expresses two simultaneous actions, like “while…-ing”: 他一边走路,一边唱歌 (he sings as he walks).
The subject appears only once, at the start. Each 一边 is followed by a verb.
It's an easy way to build a two-clause sentence at level 1. Two other ways to coordinate: simply juxtapose (我喜欢看电视,弟弟喜欢打球) or use 也 (这个房间很大,也很干净).
