在……方面 / 上 / 中: in terms of, as regards, among

These three frames set an abstract area before the main clause. They stand at the start of the sentence or right after the subject.
• 在……方面 = "in terms of, in the field of": 在技术方面，他比我强多了; 在这方面 = "on this point".
• 在……上 = "when it comes to, as regards" (one particular aspect or question): 在这件事上，最好多听听父母的意见.
• 在……中 = "among, in the course of" (inside a group, a text or a process): 在这些文物中，它最有名; 在学习汉语的过程中，我遇到过很多问题.
A physical place takes 里 (在学校里), never 上 or 中. 在……下 (在老师的帮助下) is a different frame.
Examples
在这方面，我没有什么经验。
Zài zhè fāngmiàn, wǒ méiyǒu shénme jīngyàn.I don't have much experience in this area.
在技术方面，他比我强多了。
Zài jìshù fāngmiàn, tā bǐ wǒ qiáng duō le.In terms of technique, he is much better than I am.
在这三个城市中，我最喜欢杭州。
Zài zhè sān ge chéngshì zhōng, wǒ zuì xǐhuan Hángzhōu.Of these three cities, I like Hangzhou best.
在这件事上，最好多听听父母的意见。
Zài zhè jiàn shì shang, zuìhǎo duō tīngting fùmǔ de yìjiàn.In this matter, it's best to listen to your parents' opinion.
在工作上，她对自己要求很高。
Zài gōngzuò shang, tā duì zìjǐ yāoqiú hěn gāo.As far as work goes, she demands a lot of herself.
在学习汉语的过程中，我遇到过很多问题。
Zài xuéxí Hànyǔ de guòchéng zhōng, wǒ yùdào guo hěn duō wèntí.In the course of learning Chinese, I have run into many problems.
Common mistakes
✗ 在学校上，我学了很多 → ✓ 在学校里，我学了很多 (a physical place takes 里).
✗ 在这方面上，我没有经验 → ✓ 在这方面，我没有经验 (don't add 上 after 方面).
✗ 在这三个人上，他最高 → ✓ 在这三个人中，他最高 (to pick out of a group, use 中).
