有所 + verb ("have some…") says a change happens to some extent, without quantifying it: 有所提高 (has improved somewhat), 有所下降 (has dipped), 有所不同 (differs somewhat).
The verb is disyllabic, usually a verb of change. Elegant negative: 无所 + V (无所谓、无所不知). Very common in reports and statistics.
Examples
近年来,城市的空气质量有所改善。
Jìnnián lái, chéngshì de kōngqì zhìliàng yǒusuǒ gǎishàn.In recent years, urban air quality has improved somewhat.
今年房价有所下降,但仍然很高。
Jīnnián fángjià yǒusuǒ xiàjiàng, dàn réngrán hěn gāo.House prices have fallen a little this year but remain high.
不同城市的生活节奏有所不同。
Bùtóng chéngshì de shēnghuó jiézòu yǒusuǒ bùtóng.The pace of life differs somewhat from city to city.
Common mistakes
✗ 有所高 → ✓ 有所提高 (disyllabic verb).
✗ 有所提高了 is common in speech but clumsy in writing → ✓ 有所提高。
✗ 有所 + an exact amount: ✗ 有所提高了百分之五 → ✓ 提高了百分之五。
