连 + verb 1 + 带 + verb 2 fuses two actions into a single lively movement: 连哭带叫 (weeping and shouting at once), 连蹦带跳 (jumping and skipping about). The two verbs are almost always one syllable and bare, with no object or adverb between them. The group paints a scene in one stroke: the person is carried away by fear, joy or effort, and the two actions come with no pause between them.
It works as a manner adverbial before the verb (连滚带爬地冲下楼) or, very often, as a complement of degree after 得 (吓得连哭带叫, 高兴得连蹦带跳). It is a narrative device. Compared with 一边……一边……, which keeps two distinct actions running side by side (一边走一边聊), 连A带B blends them and gives a breathless feel; it can even mix two methods (连蒙带猜: guessing partly at random, partly by instinct).
There is a noun version, 连 + noun + 带 + noun, meaning "together with": 连人带车 (the driver along with the vehicle), 连汤带水 (broth and all).

Common mistakes
✗ 连哭和叫 → ✓ 连哭带叫 (the link in the mould is 带, neither 和 nor 又).
✗ 连大声哭带大声叫 → ✓ 大声地连哭带叫 (连A带B takes only two bare verbs; adverbs go before the whole group).
