尚: still, yet (尚未, 尚无, 尚需)

尚 is the written 还, “still, as yet”. It is found almost only in blocks that say a situation has not (yet) reached the expected state: 尚未 (not yet, = 还没), 尚无 (still none, = 还没有), 尚需 (still needs, = 还需要), 尚可 (passable) and 尚在 (still in progress).
This is the language of statements, reports and the press: 目前尚无进展, 原因尚在调查之中. An official who says 目前尚无… is describing the position to date without ruling out a change, which is why the formula is so handy at a press conference. In conversation you simply say 还没, 还没有 or 还要.
Do not mix it up with 尚且 (“even…”, in 尚且…何况…), which is a different word. Think of 尚 as a block: 尚未, 尚无, 尚需, 尚可, 尚在, and the set phrase 为时尚早 (“it is still too early”). It does not go in front of just any adjective.
Examples
味道尚可，就是价格有点贵。
Wèidào shàng kě, jiùshì jiàgé yǒudiǎn guì.The taste is passable, but the price is a bit high.
手续尚未办完，请再等几天。
Shǒuxù shàngwèi bàn wán, qǐng zài děng jǐ tiān.The paperwork isn't finished yet, so please wait a few more days.
这个调查到现在为止尚无进展。
Zhège diàochá dào xiànzài wéizhǐ shàng wú jìnzhǎn.The investigation has made no progress so far.
结果尚未公布，现在下结论为时尚早。
Jiéguǒ shàngwèi gōngbù, xiànzài xià jiélùn wéi shí shàng zǎo.The results haven't been published yet, so it is too early to draw conclusions.
事故原因尚在调查之中，有关部门将适时通报结果。
Shìgù yuányīn shàng zài diàochá zhī zhōng, yǒuguān bùmén jiāng shìshí tōngbào jiéguǒ.The cause of the accident is still under investigation; the departments concerned will announce the result in due course.
这个问题想研究明白，尚需努力。
Zhège wèntí xiǎng yánjiū míngbai, shàng xū nǔlì.To get to the bottom of this question, more effort is still needed.
Common mistakes
✗ 尚没有结果。 → ✓ 尚无结果。 / 尚未有结果。 (尚 goes with the written negatives 未 and 无, not with spoken 没有).
✗ 他尚很年轻。 → ✓ 他还很年轻。 (尚 does not go in front of a degree adverb like 很; it lives in blocks: 尚未, 尚无, 尚需, 尚可, 尚在).
✗ 我尚在家吃饭。 → ✓ 我还在家吃饭。 (in an everyday sentence, 尚 sounds like an official notice).
